Shari L. Sheffield

Shari L. Sheffield brings over two decades of experience in trademark and copyright law, advising clients across government, private practice, and corporate settings. She has successfully guided clients through every phase of trademark practice, including counseling, prosecution, enforcement, and portfolio defense.  She brings an entrepreneurial sense to her client’s having been a small business owner herself for decades.

Since 2014, Shari has served as Senior Trademark & Copyright Attorney with the Office of The Judge Advocate General, U.S. Army Legal Services Agency, where she managed and defended the Army’s portfolio of more than 700 trademarks and insignia. She advised senior military leadership on trademark prosecution, trademark and copyright enforcement, licensing, and intellectual property policy. She represented the U. S. Army before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and in federal court matters in collaboration with the Department of Justice.

Her prior experience includes roles contracting with the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics, and as a Trademark Examining Attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where she managed a docket of over 1,000 active cases and represented the Office in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) proceedings. Shari also practiced as a solo intellectual property attorney, counseling businesses on trademark licensing, copyright registration, and IP portfolio strategy.

She is active in professional and community organizations, including National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) and Corporate Counsel for Women of Color (CCWC). Beyond her legal practice, Shari is a writer and educator with a passion for wine, blending her analytical skills with creativity and cultural engagement.
